I gotta say PR industry has pretty much developed over the years. Back then not so many companies recognized the importance of PR; some didn’t even know what PR is. Today, even though some of us still think of PR as a “publicity stunt” or a “manipulative tool” for big companies, small companies/businesses like Benz & Carlton Sdn. Bhd know how important PR is for their survival.
Hey, I’m Gorata Moloi from LUCT and this is my fifth week as an intern. Happy New Year to ya’ll! Finally found a minute to share with ya the good and the bad experiences I encountered so far. First of all my gratitude goes to Benz & Carlton Sdn. Bhd for giving me this opportunity to work with them. Benz & Carlton is a property management Company which operates commercial, industrial and residential real estate. My first week in this company was amazing. Being a “new guy”, everybody was very nice to me, trying to make me feel at home. I didn’t have much to do the first two days except sitting on a super comfy chair and sipping my coffee. But that didn’t last long as I had to prepare for the meeting which my boss had with the clients.
Preparing for the meeting was like pain in the….neck...lol! First I had to prepare meeting request letters which included the date, time, agenda and venue, which I then distributed to the clients. The whole of that week my duty was to make a follow up; make phone calls to the clients to see if they received the meeting request letters and to re-send to those who haven’t received them. Well, some clients were cooperative but some were not; some hung up on me, some were rude and some didn’t speak English! But, my colleague warned me before so I wasn’t surprised! At the meeting, I made sure that all the basic items such as pens, papers and beverages were in place. It was also my duty to ensure that everyone who attended signed the attendance list which was to be used for evaluation. I’d say the meeting went very well; clients raised their complaints, came up with new ideas therefore enhancing mutual understanding between the company and clients.
Now I realize how important meetings are. Meetings are vital for communication and management; they allow two way communication hence generating new ideas and initiatives.

Moloi , happy new year darling, well i cant say i disagree the first weeks even 4 me were pretty hectic and blur, but then this is a bumpy and yet enjoyable ride of a lifetime in which we get to discover what PR is because as far as books are concerned; theory is by far different from practical.it quite challenging looking at issues like internal comm as well as cross cultural comm but it is always a way to development and growth.enjoy xoxo
Very true Gorata, communication is quite a challenge even for me. Having to talk to someone who speaks Malay over the phone is a challenge but for me i got used to it over time. I had to learn a few Bahasa lines like "Saya tak boleh cakap Bahasa Melayu" meaning i don't speak Bahasa but all in all its quite an experience.
