Ultimately I am here! Well, hi everyone! I am optimistic you all had a tremendous period throughout your internship. As for me, I have no qualm gained twofold the experience I was looking forward to. Well, well, I was interning at Mongoose Publishing under the PR,Marketing and Branding dept. I have done a bit of everything plus Editorial.
Ok, first things first, during my first week, I had an astonishing revelation to branding and marketing while I was introduced to quite a few tasks under the PR dept. During the recurring weeks, I specialised on both PR and branding while I was given the mandate to do some bit of editorial where I did some web-copy writing errands during my last week. All in all, my tasks where mainly to call and email potential clients to arrange for meetings with the company brand ambassador, attend meetings with clients, write and send proposals to advertisers and sponsors, media monitoring, media updates on free PR distribution websites, media listings, events listing, compiling monthly PR reports for TNT, web-copy writing and other miscellaneous tasks.
In my accordance, the experience came quiet handy as I got to work with professionals who did not leave any room for the slightest mistake. Apparently you have to be extra careful in all that you from clients' work to calls and web-posting. I have learnt a great deal and I am hoping to share with you and expand more on my tasks during the course of next week.

when you are thinking about getting work in PR field, you already know that you need to be someone who can communicate well, hope you did well in communicating the goals and ideas of the people you were representing especially your boss.
hope you learned a lot at Mangoose publishing working under PR, Marketing and Branding department, because i had a difficult time during my first days at BPC because of this combination, i couldn't cope with the fact that Pr and Marketing were working under the same roof. I was one of those pr people who do not wish to be closely associated to marketing, seeing it as a profit focused department because all i knew was PR only. but today i can proudly assure you that there is nothing wrong with these two working together because of the experience i got from BPC. i can tell you it is good to combine the two because they are both essential for the organization because at the end of the day PR protects while marketing promotes, "successful marketing and satisfied customers make good relations with others easier to build and maintain relationships".
you sound a lot like me though for me it was PR and brandong, I was very frustrated that i was put under branding in my first week but as time went on, I got to realise that this two dept work hand in hand in all that they do.They attend the same meeting, meets some of the clients together and better yet, they sit next to each other. Interesting huh! Yep,yep! i have had a great deal doing not only PR but also other related works.
I agree with Kereeditse, you get to learn more when doing PR with something else rather than just concentration on PR alone. An extra aspect added on to the picture adds a little more base and substance to our learning programme. And Kereeditse you have said it like a professional dear "at the end of the day PR protects while marketing promotes", when it comes to PR and marketing.
One thing that I pride a publishing company with is the different divisions that are available and it also gives one the opportunity to try out everything at once during your time of placement.
Brand loyalty also sounds very interesting in a sense that it is more client orientated and I suppose that was what you were assigned to do, calling clients and making sure that you arrange meetings in order for them to be able to develop a linking for the company as well and I take it the voice behind the company had to be as convincing and interesting as possible. Looking forward to your next post to learn more about your placement
