Helo gud pips....Gone are the days, aniwa what i have learnt during my internship is that Public Relations go hand in hand with journalism because PR can't succeed without working with the media to disserminate information to the key publics.
working for a media outlet is was quite good and i felt i was really working there for good but not just for 2 months. The company had editorial, advertising with less Public Relations. i was more into editorial as i wrote news especially feature articles as i likes meeting people and did interview them before writing articles (you can see that meeting clients and interviewing them is also part of PR). we (me and my collegues) were invited to workshops, event to cover them up and help make it success. All i can say now is that i am ready to go out there and face the world....

you are on point, i totally agree with you that Public Relations is an inevitable part of the communications order, most of Journalists use Public Relations practice for their benefit, to as per say meeting with the intended public(clients) that is how basic the two fields relate
i do believe in what you just posted, PR and Journalism are a great success, and as you know nowadays everything is a mash-up so there is no suprise that our jobs are becoming mash-ups too...PR and Journalists have a mutual dependent relationship in a way that like you said PR needs the press to disseminate information about its organization/client while journalists appreciate good Pr people who can be their reliable sources...or rescue them during their deadlines...i do believe you had a good time dealing with the two..
I also completely agree with your post. You are right in saying that Public Relations needs Journalism for the spread of information. I think if I hadn't had some journalism experience I would struggle in the field. Even when proof reading documents I find I subconciously use those editing habits and tips that are drilled into us in Journalism classes. In my internship I had to interview some guests at an event on camera and my journalism skills certainly made me alot more confident! I think it's important to at least have some knowledge of journalism so you know what to provide the media with as a PR professional.
