Greeting. So i started working at Botswana National Museum on the 20th of December 2010 to the 4th of February 2011, need i say just how slow the workplace was around this time of the year. Especially in a small PR department of a government owned museum. Well, from the minute i got there i was assigned to do the editorial and translation of the museum's newsletter; The Zebra's Voice. The newsletter is published once a year, basically the curators from different departments (archeology, ethnology, education, etc) submitted articles on any subject matter that concerns monuments, culture, heritage sites and the museum at large. My job was to summarise the articles and edit the grammar, sentence structure, double check the facts, use simple english that can easily convey the message to everyone, from professors to primary school students, translate the article to Setswana language in order to target Batswana who do not know English or prefer Setswana. The editorial and translation of Zebra's Voice was part of my everyday tasks until my very last day at the museum. The newslettr is distributed to certain departments in ministries and Unfortunately the newsletter is not easily accessible to the general public as there is not enough money for printing fees, which is also why it is only published once a year.
Welcome to PR Internship - YOUR opportunity to put everything you have learned over the past years at university into practice and to get a thorough insight into what public relations is like "in the real world". This Blog allows you to reflect on your experiences, share insights with other students across campuses and to possibly give advice and support to fellow students.
