So far, so good!

I think I could call my first full week here a bit of a success! I am really, really enjoying myself!! Definetly starting to carve out my career niche :) For the reast of last week (Wed. and Thursday) I continued working on some briefs and constituent feedback. Really getting to be a good hand at researching and replying to constituent letters! In a way, just doing those letters has been challenging - it's up to you then and there what information you look for, and what your chosen approach will be. What I mean by the latter is, it's not just the person who writes in who wants something, by replying in a certain way you can communicate your organisation's objectives/goals - so not all PR success comes from media exposure. It all sounds so rudimentary in the sense - "oh yeah, a textbook could have told me that!!" But it's different experiencing it for yourself. I'm definetly learning a lot. I'm doing PR 300 (Consultancy) at the moment at uni, and we talked about research last week - all the different kinds, and why it's important. And doing my work last week, it was 100% relevant. Second big thing I've learnt about is the importance of research in the PR profession. To even begin to answer any question/problem you need to do research. When people ask questions, they want the best answer. My research skills will be put to the test again this week, where I have been left a slighty larger project, which will take me the week - a more comprehensive brief. Which will be a challenge, but it will be good - because I really need to chip the rust off my research skills. At the same time it might get them going for another research report I have to do for my International Relations unit(!) Wish me luck! Until next week! xx
