Life time experience

Greetings! I am Nomsa Mosigi a final student in LUCT Malaysia. I was placed as an intern at Botswana Railways headquarters in Mahalapye. This was a very sound experience for me having to be in the actual market place. Ladies and gentlemen Public relations in a governmental sector is no joke.
The first week was just for me to learn the ropes and paths of Botswana Railways, getting introduced to the different sectors within the organization. This was a challenge for me because working in the headquarters means as a PR person  you have to work for all (about 10) railway stations in Botswana. As a beginner my duties were as light as drafting memos, filling, and updating notice boards, attending high profile meetings.

My arrival to the organisation was during a busy and hectic month of December which means more work. Fortunately on my side we were about 6 in the office therefore work was easily done with. Now PR in an governmental organ is not yet understood and the meaning of PR is somehow ignored. When we take the theoritical part of PR that we learn it totally differs to the way things are really done in the market place. Do you agree?
please do share your sentiments and i will get back with more. thank you

Taking the boat with you on the aspect of understanding Public Relations in the governmental organ is still at infancy stage, in realization of that as i was in the government sector as well there has been a confusion of marketing and Public Relations yet these are independent entities and they mostly apply it in events other than that other aspects are shallow like internal communication which can contribute to the milestone of Botswana Vision 2016 which can produce exceptional results. internal communication is not about enriching the employees but also taking your sector to greater heights.
