So as I have been at my PR Placement for a good few weeks now, I have yet to write my first blog!
My name is Lisa Butcher and I am working for Loaded Communications which is a PR and Marketing Company in North Perth. The company itself is rather small with the office only consisting of four co-workers and myself.
As Loaded is an integrated PR/Marketing company, I work alongside a Graphic Designer, Web Developer, Marketer and Public Relations Consultant.
This makes things quite diverse as we get many clients who just need to re-vamp their website and many projects stretching right across to Events Management which I find really interesting.
At the moment I am working alongside my PR Manager to organise the National Youth Conference in Sydney on May 30- June 1st this year. This I not only find really interesting but so relevant considering I am a ‘young Australian’!
I have drafted media releases for the Australian Youth Affairs Coalition (AYAC) (who is holding the National Youth Conference) and been involved in editing Abstract summaries for speakers at the conference and organising the program for the three days as to what is happening at every moment during the three-day conference.
Some of the people who have been chosen to speak about their abstracts have very interesting topics up for discussion at the conference; youth development, social media, social expectations of youth, cyber-safety, multicultural young people and their rights and many more topics relating to young people and youth workers. I think it would be worthwhile to any person in the youth sector of Australia or any young person to have the opportunity to listen to some of these speakers.
Earlier in my placement I worked in organising the WA Youth Awards which were held in Perth the other weekend on May 9th. I was able to draft some information being released to participants and recipients of the Youth Awards. I also helped in editing a compliment of snap-shots of contestants in which was shown on the Awards night so the audience could view some moments where the contestants spoke about what they do selflessly as a young individual. Wow! We have some very passionate and giving young individuals.
I think I am very lucky to have such a great PR mentor and ‘boss’ here at Loaded. Damian always makes sure I have something to keep me occupied and has tried his best to give me a range of projects to expand my PR knowledge and get experience in as many areas of PR as possible. He is constantly asking me for feedback and seeing how I am going each step of the way. So for someone as busy as him, I think he really understands how to look after someone doing work experience so that I get the most diverse experience possible. Of course, with any job, there are those parts which can be repetitive or not as exciting, but I think if I am interested in this field of work, I need to be exposed to as much of what is under the “PR Umbrella” as possible!
That’s all for the moment, as with Uni this semester getting a little hectic and everything else that is thrown at you in life, I have not really had a chance until now to write a post.
