So it's been a while since my last post. But here is a quick summary of what has been going on at Via Appia Networking WA. The latest event that they ran was called the 'Green Network.' It actually was quite an interesting event. The topic for the event was on the carbon tax and was held at the The Old Brewery. Networking WA had brought together a panel of representatives to speak about the new carbon policy and how their business will tackle the risks and opportunnities the price presents and the affects on their organisation. It turned out to be a great event with lovely weather and a delicious lunch over the river and a great opportunity for professionals to network. At the event I had to help people with their name tags and find their table, lucky enough to meet and greet a number of people from all different industrys. It was great to keep working on my networking skills and build up my confidence.
In this same week I kept up to date with promotion for the Fashion on the terrace event that they are running. This is coming up in a few weeks. Looking forward to it as it is going to be in claremont at On the terrace, it is featuring Kookai and Willie Creek Pearls. They are selling tickets, but it all includes a delicious meal, drinks and wonderful gift bag! So posting the information on media contacts websites, tweeting about it and facebooking and emailing fashion stores and people to come along to this fabulous fashion event. Even though it seems my tasks are rather repetitive, I have learnt it has all been part of this learning curve and without repeating these tasks, no one would know about their events. I have learnt to multi - task and be more efficient when getting things done. For example I had to draft a letter to send out to potential clients to come along to the Thought Leaders event that they also run. There is a particular style that my supervisor wanted me to write in, so perfecting this was a challenge and I definitely learnt something from it. Even when addressing emails, I have learnt that people look for unique layouts in invites and general formats, so picking up on minor details like this was important. I think people like it when it seems more personal, this way it will increase the chance of them responding.
As I have mentioned before, the Fashion on the terrace is there next big event. So lately I have been doing a lot of media listings, emailing, facebooking, tweeting and linked in research for the event. Some of the websites I have emailed were the STM, The West and Claremont forums. I have actually become a lot better at promoting the events on the website as I have got faster and signing in to all the different online websites, so it isn't as tedious anymore. In addition to this I had to become a little bit more familiar with Linked In and search for groups that were related to women in business and fashion. So when I send out information regarding the event, people may be interested. It is just another way of getting the word out.
Moving on to this week. I thought it would be a good idea if I helped out with the gift bags for the Fashion on the terrace and putting them together. I could probably say it was a little bit more exiciting as I managed to send out some emails for the event to gift and fashion stores to see if they would donate any gifts for the gift bags. In the email it suggests that it would be great brand promotion for their store and increase awareness by partnering with them Via Appia Networking WA for the event. After multiple emails and facebook posting about the event, I heard back from one of the gift stores in South Perth. I felt so relieved and actually proud of myself that I had done something right. So I spoke to the store owner over the phone to organise what she was going to provide. In the end we agreed on a little hamper for the door prize, including a wallet and body products. So by the end of the day I felt pretty happy with myself and now have something to work on next time!
All I can say is that these past few weeks have been full of social media...posting, tweeting, connecting! What else could there be? Tell me what you think about social media, and how much longer PR firms will be relying on it? Do you think it is effective? Until next time :)

for some reason today there is nothing that doesn't really fall back on the use of social media for promoting or for publicity, social media seems to be the way forward because almost everyone uses social media for communication or many other business activities.
tweet, Facebook and blog as it happens it keeps your clients informed and that makes sure that they are not left out in the action, more like in journalism, breaking news and stories makes it more realistic and keeps people well informed and they can follow the event and the story as it happens. for my AIDSAware exhibition launch event i had to tweet, Facebook and blog about it time and again to keep reminding people and also to inform others that had missed out on the information before and this does truly help but even though it sounds a little monotonous that i have to keep posting time and again but it surely made the event a success.
Hi Katherine, it sounds like you have a very interesting placement. I have to agree with you 100%, social media is such a prominent means of contact/promotion in the current business world. I work for a small boutique PR firm and I am currently planning my directors High School Reunion, strange I know. But all of her long-lost friends I am finding on facebook and twitter. Sometime I actually wonder what we did before facebook?? I think if anything the use of social networking sites will only increase in time.
In regards to you seeking out donations for the gift bags, I organised a fundraiser in the summer and I had to do the same thing. I was truly surprised by the amount of people willing to donate goods if you just ask them. I think sometime doubt can stop us from trying but my advice is as confident as possible!
Good luck with everything
Social networks in today`s world can never be omitted out by organizations because of the influence they have on people.
Posting companies information serves as a publicity to the globe almost every one can have the information or even refer back to really understanding about what a company is offering.
For example if we make take one great use of social network which turned out successful to a company it be a mistake if we choose not Nestle. Green peace posted a video on youtube showing the number of palm trees cut in Indonesia by Nestle and immediately Nestle posted on Green peace`s face book account to take out the video as it would tarnish their reputation and through Facebook it was a great well done work they managed to safe guard their reputation.
so that just how important social media can be helpful to organizations.
