ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2011 (DBS)

It was an honor, great opportunity, challenge and a life time experience to take part in this event. The event under the theme Digital Broadcasting Symposium: Adding the 3rd Dimension was held at Hotel Istana from the 8-11 March 2011.

This was in actual fact the biggest and well orginized event i have ever attended. I worked under the supervision of a hardworking woman Geraldine Peters. I tackled several tasks of which they have matured my PR skills and boosted my confidence. The week before the event meant hard work and load of work for all the ABU staff. Working late and on weekends. We designed name tags for delegates, speakers, members, media and non members. Prepared everything well in time and moved all the necesary materials to Hotel Istana where we checked in for the whole week.

The first day we prepared the gifts for speakers, gift bags for VIPS and were given tasks for the whole event. In this i learnt the importance of gifts giving, especially for PR, individuals love to be appreciated and they love gifts.

During the event i had to usher VIPS to their place of workshops and conference. I had to make sure that workshop rooms are well arranged, the PA system is ready for the speakers, the name tags are well put before the speaker arrives, the gifts for the speakers of the day are readily available as well.

I also had to register delegates daily of which i thought it will be a one day activity but to my suprise visitors came pouring everyday. This was not an easy task but it was fun, i loved smiling with everyone that i was helping and getting a thank you back completed my service. This is where i learnt the role of PR person when working with different people, patience, hard work and striving for the success of the event are the best motives.

I also had to MC lucky draw for four days, with this i learnt the relationship of PR and Public Speaking!

Upto this date, i am still grateful that i had the opportunity to take part in this event. Talk about the good times i spent at a 5 star hotel..good times, good people and good experience !
