during my internship at Botswana police service i got to learn the advantages of public relations.The Public Relations unit of BPS covers the whole country and it works around the clock to keep the image of the organisation in good standing.I believe if there was no PRU the Botswana Police Service will not be in good standing as there will be no one to handle the media relations ,campaigns and no one to spear head events as most of the officers are busy handling crime and security.
Public relations is helping the BPS to establish and maintain mutual understanding between them and the community.The PRU helps the BPS to handle issues such as wanted persons and missing persons as they are the ones that disseminate the information to the community through the media.The PRU uses things such as television programs for example Itshereletse program,a forth nightly drama,were the police act out cases of crime and security as a way to alert and tech the community how to be safe and not easily cheated.
During my internship period we held a big conference for Interpol and during the planning and arrangements the role of event planning and management was played to perfection by the Public Relations Unit hence they made a mark of their importance in the organization.
