Hi, I'm Joel from the Charles Telfair Institute in Mauritius and I'm actually doing an internship at Amnesty International Mauritius Section.
I really enjoy working there and the people are very nice. Amnesty International Mauritius Section is actually celebrating its 30 years of existence while Amnesty International will celebrate its 50th anniversary and I got the opportunity to join the board of persons that will be preparing the 30th anniversary. This sounds very exciting for me as an intern because it is the first time that I will be involved in such an event. Every Saturday the board (consisting of the President, Vice President et Director and myself among others) meet to see what is about to be done.
Right now we know for sure that there will be the most listened radio which will be present for this day, and we have arranged with the municipality of the town of Rose Hill to get a stage where Amnesty International will be as well as the presenters of the radio. We are expecting a high coverage of the media and our big aim is to recruit as many members as we can. There is also all our small NGOs that forms part of Amnesty International Mauritius Section that will be there and the funny thing is that every day I learn a new one and what do they do. I found the work of NGOs in Mauritius very important because in a way they do what the government is supposedly voted for, but is not doing. Many of these NGOs that are affiliated to Amnesty International Mauritius Section fight for the rights of the children, woman and even the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender community.
To fight for a cause and voice out the rights that are not being respected in the country and elsewhere in the world is what Amnesty does, and I found myself lucky to have found an internship there.

Hello Joel, I am happy to hear that you will be participating in such an interesting event. You will definitely be learning a lot about event management. Please share some details on how you are going to prepare for the event and how you want to attract potential members. what age group are you targeting? And do you know if they listen to this radio and at what time they usually do so? I also learned about the importance of good relationships among NGOs because usually you can save so much on expenses when organising an event together, and usually these NGOs will mostly target the same segment of the population to be recruited as members.

As Visha said, it is an interesting project that Amnesty is launching for its 30th anniversary. Please share the details on your event. On which date will the event be held in order to voice out?
Each radio in Mauritius has its particular target audience and how did the NGO planned to target other groups? Will there be enough media coverage as one of Amnesty's expectation is a high media coverage?

Hi Aurelie, first of all let me apologise for the lateness I'm sure you will understand me.
First the event will be launched at la Place de Rosnay in Rose Hill on the 28th of May at 09:00.
Amnesty International has a lot thematic groups(sub groups), like for women, children, young students, and there will be stand up stalls with each of these groups to help communicate and this one of our ways to target these publics.
The radio on charge this day is Radio Plus and it is the most listened radio in Mauritius, and there shall be the journalists of each and every media outlet and this time as it is a big event we are expecting the journalists and cameras of the national TV station the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation.
