Publicity can be deployed for various purposes in all promotional programs (creating awareness and promotion). Relational programs maintain mutually beneficial patterns of interaction and exchanges by stakeholders. To get more publicity make sure that you are always alert about what the newspapers and magazines are planning ahead so that you can give out what you want to be covered about you or your organization well in time.
The CEO contacted local media people and let them know her areas of expertise, also inviting them to call back when they needed background, most of the time these people worked with me as I provided story ideas especially to the Echo newspaper and the Vanity magazine, I acted as a columnist here, I had to call back and let them know if the story is ready for publication.
During my days in Tshimologo I was more often involved in writing skills for the Allen&Rew foundation, a small organization based in the southern area of the country to help the orphans in the region, there came one of the days when the founder of the Foundation had to donate a new house to 2 children in Lekgolobotlo who at all had no parents, I had to prepare the running schedule for the day and a speech, unfortunately I didn’t attend the event due to some reason as I had to work on another client’s proposal (Time Out recreation Club) from Kanye, with help of people in the society and staff from Tshimologo (volunteerism) the event did go well and as I speak here today it is the only one in the region taking care of these children, providing food and clothes every 2 months. The following day I saw the story published in the Botswana’s daily news paper, here Tshimologo was the main headline and I found that publicity is the key to success in today’s world, few days the founder of the foundation came to the consultancy to thank us for the support.
I have learned that in consultancy clients are the most useful/important people in the growth or succeeding of the consultancy so they must be treated with first class respect (care) and communication between the two should not break at any time or otherwise the relationship will be lost between the two, they should develop a good line of communication throughout the organization whether this is on regional, national or international basis. Baines and Egan (2004, 75) discussed this saying that the client should get to know the rest of the staff within the consultancy, good relations can be developed if the client takes the executive into their confidence and keeping him or her regularly updated on new products development and any changes within the consultancy’s policies.
