Hello everyone,
My name is Nazanin and I have been fortunate to get my placement at the CBH Group (Co-operative Bulk Handling Group).
It has been hard so far juggling uni, the placement and working all at the same time. Finding time has proven to be more difficult than I had originally anticipated.
In saying that, I feel that it is a great privilege working with the Internal Communications and Corporate Affairs departments at CBH. I am very surprised at how relevant everything I have learnt in previous PR units has been to the various projects I have been assigned.
Initially I was very nervous and not sure what to expect. However, on my first day, I was introduced to the Organisational Development team (Internal Communications falls under Organisational Development), where everyone was very welcoming and helpful, putting my nerves at ease.
It has been made clear to me that CBH is passionate about promoting safety in the workplace. CBH has a variety of different working environments, from the head office in Perth to the many storage sites spread out in W.A. This raises the concern of promoting safety in every aspect of internal communications.
Most of my projects so far have therefore reflected this strong portrayal of safety in the workplace. One of the first ventures I undertook was to liaise with an external designer to create a safety checklist that is both easy to follow and that meets the company’s standards (i.e. corporate colours, logos and wording). This was a valuable experience as it has helped me understand why consistency has great importance in a business environment.
I’m am currently working on a few different projects on serious issues such as safety and some more fun projects such as setting up the company’s Facebook site.
CBH is also involved in sponsoring the local community, such as W.A. Country Football League, Hockey W.A., Tennis West, Foodbank, Nuffield Scholarship, Women in Leadership, Little Learners Program in Kellerberrin and many more. One of the most recent events that CBH is involved in is the City to Surf for Activ, providing training programs and payment for employees who want to participate. I believe that CBH genuinely wants to give back to the community, which confers a sense that I am working for a company that cares for both its employees and the community around them.
I am looking forward to upcoming challenges and will hopefully be updating you soon on some of the projects coming up.
Talk to you all soon!

Naz your intern sounds great!
Hi Nazanin,
Your internship sounds very interesting and seems to provide you with many opportunities to put what you've learnt at university into practice. It's always nice to know that others are in the same boat as you so rest assure I was very nervous too when I started my placement, as would many others doing this unit would have been.
It's nice to see how you can put into practice what you have learnt through the course. I found that I was thinking back to the PR techniques unit often. Also, you'll be surprised how much you learn throughout your internship, which you would never learn in university.
Hope you have enjoyed your time at the CBH Group and goodluck with the report.
