Week Two and Half Way Through!

I am now 10 days and half way through my internship. It has been very busy and exciting!

My first job came in the form of an exhibition brief and booth design. One of our larger clients is developing an international human resources campaign attracting skilled workers from various countries around the world. There is one event in particular in London that they will be attending in February and it was my job to first prepare an event brief. This included liaising with the exhibition administrators situated in Canberra to retrieve information about the booth location on the floor, the size, and the other exhibitionists.

I also included in the brief:
• all details about the event: venue and area map, event synopsis, key dates, surrounding accommodation, possible flights for the client, transport around London, advertising and event protocol, safety procedures, delivery details
• All key contacts including the Client, myself, exhibition contacts and all suppliers.
• Booth and marketing collateral specifications
• An exhibition itinerary
• An event checklist, with sections including internal confirmation, communications, IT, booth and printing, general.

Once the booth specifications and event details had been established I then created a fee estimate for the client illustrating two options they should consider for their booth.

I was also given a lot of small jobs on the side to help the senior consultants lighten their workload. These tasks included:
• Acting as the middle man between client and our designer in editing and submitting an awards submission and the associated documents.
• Creating a website user guide.
• Creating fee quotations and liaising with suppliers in order to do this.

It was a very enjoyable and challenging first week. My second week was even more exciting and challenging!

We were called in early on Monday with a big and important job that came in over the weekend and that had a very short and strict deadline. We had until close of business Tuesday to complete an entire tender submission and campaign for our client. It was all hands on deck in all departments for two and everybody was tested. There were late nights and longs hours.

My job on the Monday was to visit the client on their work site and conduct a number of interviews regarding a recent even that had occurred recently. Upon retrieving the information I was then asked to compile the answers into two case studies about the workers. I was then asked to report on the said event. These works were published in the tender with minimal editing and it felt amazing! To see my work printed in a brochure was so rewarding and I was very proud!

The rest of the week was not as huge. I again took on some small jobs to help the senior consultants and did a small amount of admin work around the office.

After being half way through my internship I am very happy with the effort that I have put in and what I am learning. I’m looking forward to the rest of internship and everything that will follow!
