Internet Activism
Activism is an integral part of the process of democracy and consists of efforts to raise public awareness and to promote social change. For PR person what they can do to contribute to Activism is increasing awareness through PR tools. Actually, they really reached this. Activism can be divided to several kinds. In this video, I will choose Internet activism. Internet activism uses of electronic communication technologies such as social media, especially Twitter and Facebook, YouTube, e-mail, and podcasts for various forms of activism.
Like Greenpeace, it started their "the killer" e-campaign in YouTube with a video which aimed to change Nestle's policy. Later public participated in the e-campaign in Facebook. In china, many Corporates pay much to their PR consultancy for the edit of social media, comment on public websites. Internet activism also known as digital activism, it has been the most useful and appropriate term for this new form of activism. I believe it can be the most useful activism because of its spreading speed. And in the New Economy, public get used to this lifestyle.
So for our clients, we always suggest them at least have their own Facebook page like Beauty Salon. Because most of them are retails, we also send their informations to the marketplace, make them on the newsletter and marketplace's websites, such as Carillion city.
Social media becomes more popular than they used to be. Not only here, also in China it is the very important for the corporates. Hence we also have our social media. We found that people like to comment in your twitter or facebook rather than your websites. They always share something which they think is interesting. If we need their feedback, we would better to create a research form in our facebook.
As a conclusion, I think we have to know how to manage the Eletronic communication technologies if we want to do our work well. Furthermore, the Internet Activism also give us some pressure to know our clients well. If not, we can not get well knowing about their situation also customers.

Hi Lilian,
It's great to see someone who also believes Internet activism and the power of the Internet is something PR practitioners should pay attention to and even take advantage of. Where I am interning (The Global Good Foundation), we rely on social media to spread our campaign messages and communicate with our stakeholders. We have Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts, and use all 3 for different purposes. Facebook is a great way to engage stakeholders by letting them know what we're up to, and giving them a glimpse into how we work. It basically adds the "human" element to the organisation.
What about sharing how the company you are working at uses social media?
