Key elements to be demonstrated by a PR practitioner - From an intern's perspective

[Blog post number 4]

Key elements to be demonstrated by a PR practitioner - From an intern's perspective

So this is my final week of placement. Mixed emotions.
Slightly relieved because I will have more time to complete the insane amount of assignments; sad because I will have to leave the department. Definitely going to miss all the random conversations and crazy laughter we have in office.

In my 4th blog post, I would like to highlight a few elements that I believe is key in any PR practitioner. Well perhaps it is not limited to only PR practitioners, but rather all working professionals. Feel free to comment below as I would really love to gather different opinions :)

Reliability
As a working professional, in this case, a PR practitioner, clients depend on us to get the job done. They expect us to deliver nothing but the best, so that they can obtain the desired results. We need to perform. We need to deliver. We need to be reliable, in order to gain trust from our clients. Building a reputation takes years, but it only takes a short period of time to ruin it. All of the previous effort will then go to waste. It is our task to take full on responsibility for all that we have promised, and strive for excellence in all we do!

The right mindset and attitude
From what I have observed, not everyone will have the knowledge in every aspect. There is bound to be uncertainty in certain issues and topics. For example, when we are requested to write a press release for an engineering department, we are often bombarded with technical terms which are merely "alien language" to the PR people. How do we go about it though, is a different story altogether. To have the right mindset and attitude to strive for the best, a PR practitioner should seek clarification from parties involved, to deliver the best.

Ultimately,

Passion
I am not sure about others, but personally, PASSION is the underlying motivation in all that I do. If I am passionate about something, I will give in my all. Just to share, my passion is to develop people. Being in AIESEC, I realized that I really enjoy the process of watching people grow. To me, growth simply means improving from the person you used to be yesterday. It could  be as small as having the guts to speak in front of the public that you may not have before. Growth goes a long way, and it has to start somewhere, somehow.
I love to let people know that they are capable of so much more than they can possibly think of, and I have a passion to motivate people, and to provide a platform/opportunity for them to discover and learn more about themselves.
In the PR perspective, this passion of mine has enabled me to want to assist the clients to develop, to grow and to achieve more :)

What's your passion?  :)
