Wow, I just got back
home from the retreat, it was unbelievably amazing experience for me. The
event’s highlight for me is when we finish the reflection session where the participants’
mood was down (usually in a retreat, there is session called reflection where the
speaker reminds us about our sins that we committed to our parents, friends,
and God. Usually, people are emotional during this time.) and the music
committees decided to improvise by playing upbeat songs then everyone in the
room were literally jumped around and sing along, it was an amazing sight for
me. Emceeing for me also a new experience for me as I have never done this
before in my life, moreover I have to stand up in front of 80+ people. Initially,
I was reluctant to agree to be the MC because I know that myself is a very shy
and timid person but I decided to take this position because I want to
challenge myself. I had a hard time learning the material that was given to me
because the nervousness had gotten into me. My nightmare became reality when I
start emceeing on the first day, I literally blanked out, all I did was smiling
and adding few words of what my other partner said. The reasons I could not
lead the participants well is that I was really nervous and there were a lot of
miscommunication between the speaker and the MCs so we did not aware of the
changes that had been made therefore we were clueless on the stage. That night,
my senior scolded me. He said that I was very unwell prepared. I realized that
I was not unwell prepared but I was so nervous that affects my performance as
MC and unable me to adapt to the changes. The first day was over, I decided to
get to know the participants better by mingling around during the supper time.
I knew that I could not get to know everyone with such a short time but that
was the only thing I could do to help me feel comfortable talking the next day.
Actually, that method helped a lot, the second day and third day, I was able to
talk more freely and better than the first day, I am glad I took this positions
as I learnt a lot during this event.
