as a Public Relations practitioner it is not only very important to look your best, groomed to the toe, but it is also very important to be disciplined in the work place. it is important to take every matter, no matter how small or irrelevant it may seem as the last and the one that could cost you your job.
when i began my internship, the staff seemed quite lax about time and ongoing matters with the interns but as the work load increased, the need for their attention increased and a lot of conflict came along as a result of indiscipline and lack of punctuality. The organization in turn suffered missing a few meetings and meeting some deadlines. Everyone was to blame for this, especially the interns who had gotten carried away with the relaxed state in the office.
If one intern wasn't late, he or she was doing the wrong thing or treating the other like an employee and the whole system would easily have fallen apart if they didn't pull it together and realize how replaceable every employee in an organization is especially the interns.

I really agree with you on the issue of discipline. Not only does this benefit the organization but also the individual employee. This is because with discipline, there is a transparency present between the employee and the employer making the rate of productivity higher and thus would help the employee to put their time to best use. In your case in the office, an approach to counter this problem would also be looking at it with a positive approach instead of a top down negative approach to solve this.
