After going through all the main challenges that I have faced during the internship, I'm going to talk about the week of the event, which is from 28 May - 3 June. I don't think I have ever experienced such a hectic week in my life before and this is an experience that I'll definitely remember for as long as possible.
The week of the event happens to be my study week and I had to struggle with the preparation of three examinations.
As I was the logistics person, I had a lot of errands to such as the printing and collecting of shirts, collecting of paper from one of our sponsors, liaising with the caterers, liaising with The Yellow Ribbon Project donation box, buying of miscellaneous items such as markers, pens, masking tapes etc and the printing of many documents.
In addition, I was pressurized to look for volunteers and participants to go to to the event. Having to deal with both mental and physical pressure, I broke down on the Thursday as I knew that I was spending too much time on the workshop that I have neglected my preparation for the exams. It really made me very upset when most of my good friends were not willing to come down to the event to support me even though they knew that I was badly looking for volunteers and participants. Fortunately for me, my two good friends - Joey and Lo decided to take out time from their busy schedule and volunteered to help me during the event. I was extremely elated as both of them were both foreign students but they were willing to travel to a rather confusing place just to show me their support. It was their support that made me hang on and I was willing to still do my best for the event and not put my previous efforts to waste.
Another consolation was when The Powerful Self Workshop was featured on The New Paper. The media coverage on a local newspapers brought smiles to all our faces and we all knew that the workshop was coming to an end and that would mean that our stress would come to an end as well.
I have learnt that to be a successful PR practitioner, one has to learn how to deal with stress as the nature of the job is very taxing and demanding.
With much chutzpah,
