Post #1- Introduction, background and first week

Hi everyone,

I want to introduce myself in my first blog for PR 393. My name is Karen Kasasih, this is my final unit I have to do before graduating. I am doing this unit a little later than expected because I was studying abroad in the States last semester and because my exchange experience was extremely rewarding I decided to look for an internship position here too, and luckily enough, I found one.

Towards the end of the semester, I started receiving many emails regarding the many PR internship positions I had applied months prior, however, d2 publicity in New York was one of the first to respond and was very interested in having me join their team so, I accepted their offer to intern for four months. 

d2 is located in New York, they also have an office in Los Angeles. d2 is a full service boutique public relations agency specialising in beauty, fashion, and lifestyle. d2 handles a lot of the media relations, event management, celebrity relations, and social media for their clients.

My internship will run for four months, until early May 2013- just in time for graduation, hopefully! I have been at d2 for one week now; my first day was last Thursday, January 3rd. It seems like an odd day to start work on a Thursday but that's because I am only at the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of each week.

On my first day at d2, I didn't know what to expect because not only was I starting a new job, but I was also in a new city, which was rather overwhelming. The d2 office was a lot smaller than I expected, it was a single suite room at a very beautiful building in SoHo, surrounded by many retail outlets.

My office hours are 10-6pm, which isn’t bad because I can take my time in the morning before work. A normal day at the office include a lot of client product send outs to magazine editors and other well-known people in the industry, researching, creating lists of more people for send outs, emailing product reviews, running errands, and much more. I have learnt so much within the four days I’ve been working at d2 and of course, like any job, some days do go by faster than others but regardless, and I’m enjoying this internship very much.

Hopefully, this time away from my family and friends in Perth, and this wonderful internship opportunity will not only help me get a lot of experience in PR, but also open a lot of doors for me in the future.
