Week 5 in Kingsmen

Today caps the end of a rather short and uneventful week.

I was kept occupied most of the time this week with the impending publication of the company's 2013 newsletter. The newsletters will include an arrays of articles and information pertaining to the works of the company in 2012. I was personally entasked with the write-out of 2 of the articles, and the editorial work of a few others.

1 learning point that I took out of this experience was to really consider the audiences of your articles and the intended purpose of your articles before starting to work on them. I was more concerned of the quality of the articles and the relevancy of the information chunked into the articles. That was a grave mistake as my colleague had to put it delicately to me that my articles in her words 'Too corporate' and 'doesn't suit to tone of a magazine article' despite having substantial and good quality information. Needless to say, I felt disappointed as I put in huge amount of efforts into the articles and was hoping it would yield only positive feedbacks.

This could of cause have been prevented had I kept in mind the lessons of PR Techniques, where we were constantly reminded to always bear in mind that proper formating and tone usage in a write-up could adversely affect how well a piece of article appeals to its intended readers. Well, I guess some things are meant to be learnt the hard way.

I also did some benchmarking for the company against its competitors for its PR efforts in 2012, to determine how much should be done for the upcoming year. Not an easy task I must say.

All in all, not the most smooth sailing week but alot was learnt.

Hope you all are well.

So long people!

Hey!

Great post! Yes, some things are meant to be learned the hard way but at least now you know and you will never make that mistake again. I also made a mistake recently in typing of prices in a press release which of course I felt terrible about. But it was also a valuable experience and I was able to see first hand how PR people deal with mistakes like this. I guess it's important to remember that everyone makes mistakes and at least you learn from it. At least we know we won;t be making those mistakes again!

Looking forward to reading more! :)

I also encounter the same problem as you! We are required to use different tone and writing style for different magazines. Sometimes I get confused to how I should write my press release. In the end the press release have mixtures of tones and writing style. My in charge is kind enough to go through with me what I should include what i should not. He even typed out how i should go about doing my press release. Don't be disappointed, at least they corrected you to prevent you from making mistake in future. A true internship really taught us a lot. Hope your following weeks will get better! See you!
