I am Wendy Sadien, an undergraduate student at Charles
Telfair Institute in Mauritius.
I am currently enrolled to a Bachelor of Commerce in
Tourism, Hospitality, Events Management, and Public Relations.
For the purpose of Public Relations 393 module, students are
required to complete an internship before submitting a full report and I have
chosen The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, an NGO.
This very first blog is to give you an insight of the place I
have decided to have this “one month” experience. The Mauritian Wildlife
Foundation (MWF) has been established in 1984 and acts for the protection and
conservation of endangered species in both Mauritius and Rodrigues Island, and
the surrounding islets as well.
So far, the NGO has successfully worked on many projects. An
example is the restoration work started in the 1970s, which has succeeded
in rescuing the Mauritius Kestrel, Echo Parakeet and Pink
Pigeon, from the brink of extinction.
Education and awareness programs are also set throughout
different regions to make people from childhood to adulthood to be conscious of
the importance of saving the fauna and the flora. Local and international
partners also help the MWF in their initiative to save some of the rarest species from extinction and
restoring the native forest.
Moreover, situated some 850 m off the south east coast in the
Mahebourg Bay, Ile aux Aigrettes which covers an area of 26 Hectares of
coralline limestone mostly is one of the 20 projects undertaken by the MWF.

Your description of the work at the Mauritian Wildlife Federation is highly interesting in that you are, as PR, at the center of the ecology fight and frontier for Mauritius and Rodrigues.
You are using traditional and new media to propagate the "ecological ideology": presence on Facebook (allowing fans to join the cause), and educational groundwork with the youth, and awareness campaigns, are actions in favour of a brighter and cleaner future.
I hope you are experiencing the PR positive contribution and creative actions to NGOs.

Hi Wendy,
This blog is an interesting one about the environment and its protection. This might be interesting to work as a Public Relations practitioner at the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation. I had the opportunity to visit the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation of Rodrigues because my uncle used to work there and I can say that they do a great job there for the protection of animals and the environment.
