I
am now working as an intern in for Momentum Forum Events. I can’t believe that
I am involved with events! It is one of
my passionate areas of public relations that I was looking forward to as a
student. The upcoming event, Men In Black 2013 which is on the June 15th
is the event to raise awareness on men’s mental health. As the date gets
nearer, it had made us busy on our feet in seeking for sponsors and donators.
The
company has been busy preparing for the event by composing newsletters, media
releases, corporate proposals, news articles and web designing for the main
website mainly for our stakeholders which includes other interested parties
that would like to be involved.
Communication
is the main key in public relation thus the reason with preparing the public
relations materials. It is to update the stakeholders on what is our event is
about, who are going to benefit from the event, how it works, when is it going
to be held, highlighting the key points on what would be important to the
stakeholders. Basically it helps to raise awareness of the event to the
stakeholders by presenting these materials to them. As a student, I now have a
broad idea on the teachings of our public relations unit on why it is necessary
to prepare these materials.
The
public relations material tools functions as a form of consistent communication
that helps to achieve the goals and objectives of the event. By using the right
tools, it serves to engage and collaborate with the main stakeholders.
As
an intern, I have been contributing ideas to the composing of media releases
and news articles. My manager, Barbara McNaught and the PR team have been very
welcoming and open with ideas and discussions. It is definitely true that in
public relations one has to have a creative mind.
Recently,
I have contributed an original idea when the PR team was discussing on what to
post in the news article column for the main website. It had to be fresh,
informative and eye-catching to readers. With the Men In Black event coming in
mind, I contributed the idea on posting a news about celebrities that faced
depression. I thought it was a good idea because it just goes to show that even
celebrities have problems in mental health and the community can relate to
their story. This links in to the Men In Black event because it is an event to
raise awareness on men’s mental health featuring the guest speaker sharing his
journey to overcome depression.
Here is the link to the main website
and the news article I contributed. Have a read. http://www.momentumwf.com.au/news-item-127.html
It
is definitely a challenge to put together the ideas and the public relations
materials to promote them. I would know that coming from my experience but at
the same time it is so much fun to see the outcome and results of how it all
comes together. Thank you for reading my blog and news column, if there are any
enquiries or feedback, feel free to comment. In the mean time, I’ll keep
updating my blog as my journey continues from the Confession of a Public Relations
Intern.
