Hi everyone,
Today, I will share with you more
about my experience at Logos Publicity Limited. I have got the opportunity to
bring something new to the company which has helped me to learn more about the
importance of social networking sites in public relations. I have always seen
social networks as mere tools to socialize with people and I used to
underestimate its power until my manager asked to create a new Facebook page
for the sister company of Logos Publicity Limited.
It is one thing to create a
Facebook page and it is another one to promote it. I have learned that either
it is a Facebook page or a YouTube channel, it is important to communicate
effectively with people online. Those people can be the clients of tomorrow and
they will judge the reputation of the company based on what they can access
online. Nowadays, companies and people are found online and they are attentive
to what you post on social networks and how you promote your company.
I have grasped the essence of
Facebook when it comes to promote a company, as you do not have as much liberty
as a personal Facebook page. It is rather a tool to create an intimate relation
with customers and raise awareness about the services that your company can
accomplish. It is the same experience for YouTube, where the company can
showcase on the services it provides to other companies and it is a means to
attract other clients and build up relationship with the stakeholders.
This experience also leads to the
idea that people online also like your company to promote its image as being
friendly than business oriented. For example, a simple post likes “Good
Morning. Have a productive day” leads people to push the button like and to be
ready to come back for more information about your company. This experience
goes beyond my expectations as the supervisor was keen and happy of the results
of the new Facebook page, as with the new YouTube channel a client contacted
them to showcase one of their videos during an event. This was an additional
and unexpected contribution in promoting the new sister company. The lesson
that I have learned from this experience is to never underestimate the power of
social networking sites in promoting a company.

Hi Adeline,
I do agree with you that social media can be used to our advantage. It is a powerful tool which can bring about loads of benefits if used accordingly.
It is also a rather smart way to target specific consumer markets. Evaluation can also be done using social media and it has proven to be quite effective as it doesn't require much of a hassle.
For the company I am interning with, the concept of using social media is still relatively new. Our target market consists of scientists and industry leaders. Therefore, we are skeptical to use Facebook as it may come across as unprofessional. However, with engaging the younger crowd in University, we are keen to get a Facebook page started. It may attract a younger client pool as you said in your post.
Thank you for sharing with us about your experience. All the best for your internship and your future endeavours.

Hi Adeline..
you are completely right about the influence social media can have on a company's publics if used in the right way. Social media gives the opportunity to a company to come closer to its stakeholders, especially its customers, and allows them the opportunity to show that they care about them and their views.
Having an effective social media strategy could improve the company's image, visibility and loyalty by so much! If only all the companies knew about its importance or how to properly manage what appears online, they would attract so many positive feedback..
Thanks for sharing, and pointing out this important aspect of communication in today's world..
Hi Adeline,
Social media is indeed an amazing tool that public relations professionals can utilise to interact with stakeholders.
It is quite interesting that you got to create a new page for a company. I was just wondering if you looked at other company FB pages to get ideas oh how to set this one up? Or did you rely on your own personal FB experiences?
Also in thinking about the power of social media did you ever think about the negative effects social media may have and what you can do to combat these?
At my organisation we are limited by how many times a day we can post on the FB page. This is because we have found that too many posts will lead to flooding a stakeholders feed and they may potentially block seeing your posts in the future. Just an interesting point to note.
Thank you so much for discussing social media in your blog as I think it is such an important PR tool these days.
