Hi all,
Its time for my last port which makes me very nostalgic. Before starting this module i was very scare of what was going to happen during my internship and was scare of the unknown. I have been doing a lot of internships and gain experiences during my 3 years of study however never in the PR department. Three months later i can say that i gained so much confidence in my capacity of working in the PR department. This internship made my interest for PR grow and even if i passed by some tough moments i am happy of what i have been doing.
When i started PR some years ago i remember that i didn't know so much about this job and was interest in events only. I was not alone we were 3 friends saying that we will never work in this sector. And guess what! 3 years later we all three want to work as PR professionals and have this crazy idea of one day having our own company.
PR has change me and i learn the importance of communication and i have much confidence in my ideas. I would love to thanks IMS for giving me the opportunity to work for the company but also to thanks my lecturer who always has been a great help for me. He took time to be present for all of us and respect our ideas. We can all see a big difference from the first day we started PR at the university.
In Mauritius when we started PR we were more than 30 students and today we are only around 10 students. I hope that Mauritius will understand in the future the importance of PR and how it can help companies.
This internship was a great journey during which i learnt how PR is different from theories and how sometimes people don't even realise that they are using some PR technics.
Find attached some pictures of my placement.
I wish all of you the best in your life and good luck for the report.

Hello Aurelie!
I can so relate to your post. I recall not knowing what Public Relations was when I enrolled for my degree in Mass Communication. Back then people were claiming that PR and journalism match. So, I took PR because of that reason. My first interest was always Journalism.
And when I was told that a placement was mandatory for third year,I reckon being scared of that module and I must confess that I was not really keen about doing it. I was always telling myself: what company will take me? Will the internship be interesting? Will it actually help me?
Questions I had many but at least I did know that I wanted to have my placement in advertising. I was so fascinated by advertising that I think I would have been deceived if I did not get the internship in that field.
Then when I got it, the doubts came haunting my first day. I was like: will the people working there be nice? How will be the experience? Will I be good at that job? And on top of that, expectations, I had many...
The two first weeks were really hard as I was starting to adapt myself to the "real world" of Public Relations. Just like a kid learning how to swim. I was dangling around the water afraid to dive straight in. I was Suppressing my questions and my opinions.
Until I started to realise that it was leading me to nowhere. As I started to grow confident as you did, things started changing. Suddenly my opinion mattered as I was actually voicing it out. Being bold and letting behind me the idea that a "trainee has no experience so she needs to keep it quiet in case what she has to say is silly".
But thanks to our lecturer as you said, I was able to get ride of my "unfounded doubts". While talking to him about certain issues, he advised us and throughout the internship he was always there for any inquiry. And for that, I will always be grateful.
I am happy that you learned as much as I did from my placement. This module was indeed one of the best modules of Public Relations.

Hello Aurelie
I can say that you are absolutely right. As me too when I started doing PR, I had the same idea of what am I going to do with all the modules of PR. But now I can say that I did learn a lot in public relations and able to work in that department also. It is unimaginable that learning make things look scary but experiencing helps to see the real sphere.
Regards.
