Well this is my final blog post. Before I sum up the unit, I
just wanted to go through my last couple of weeks as I worked on my companies
biggest event of the year; The Pink Ribbon Ball. It was the 10th
anniversary of the ball so it was a huge deal to the company, the cause and the
sponsors. My self and the other Curtin intern were in charge or the whole night
and it went pretty smoothly, definitely the smoothest of all the four events
for 2013. We had some great entertainment, one of which I sourced myself;
Nylon, which were amazing to see, a moving testimonial speaker and we raised a
lot of money through the raffle and auction. It was a great experience to have
worked on the event from the very beginning, from sponsorship to acquiring the venue
and organising raffle and auction prizes and then to be there on the night to
see it all fall into place. Barbara (the CEO) was definitely happy with the
result and it was a great ending to my 9 months at Momentum Forum Events.
Overall it has been an eye opening experience to the world
of PR and the Not for Profit Industry and it really allowed me to take
everything I learnt from my university degree and apply it to the company. I
definitely enjoyed the feeling of pride and accomplishment when you get to see
your event that you have worked on for months and months come to life and turn
out to be a success and that will be something that I will definitely take away
with me.
I’m still up in the air about whether I want to continue interning at the company. I think I need really sit down (once uni it over) and think about where I want to go and what my goals are and see if I can achieve them where I am at, but regardless, it was an invaluable experience, one that I thoroughly enjoyed and one that will definitely come in handy for future jobs; my portfolio alone will help me gaining my dream job as I have a lot of work I can take away with me.
