Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu (LMKK) - On Boarding Experience

Greetings!

Its been awhile since my last blog post. I've been busy settling down in Curtin Perth. I transferred from Curtin Miri and it has been a busy few weeks thus explaining the absence of any activities in the blog.

Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu (LMKK) held an orientation on 5 Feb 2014 with the purpose of introducing new employees to have an in-depth understanding about the hotel group and brands. It was such a great occasion because I got to participate although I was almost done with my internship.

The orientation was conducted by Assistant Training Manager, Ms Yuko Kyogoku. During the training, she was very clear and concise on the history of Le Meridien(LM)and its brand standard.

LM brief history
1972
Air France (an airline company) launched Le Meridien
1972
Forst hotel: Le Meirdien Etoile – a leader in design and innovation at its time
2005
Starwood Hotels acquired Le Meridien Brand
2006
Le Meridien integrated into Starwood systems
2010
20 new hotel openings
2010
The best portfolio globally

Besides, there are three core values of LM which are:
CHIC - our style
Subtle, refined, sophisticated, forward-looking, original
CULTURED - our content
Passion points are the arts and cuisine
DISCOVERY - the benefit
A new perspective, a new way of seeing things

As the information above shows, Starwood hotels had acquired LM brand in 2005. ‘Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. is the most global high-end hotel company in the world’. There are nine brands which belong to Starwood hotels:
·        Aloft, a Vision of W Hotels
·        Element by Westin
·        Four Points by Sheraton
·        Le Méridien
·        Sheraton Hotels & Resorts
·        St. Regis Hotels & Resorts
·        The Luxury Collection
·        Westin Hotels & Resorts
·        W Hotels
(For more information, kindly visit here: https://www.starwoodhotels.com/index.html)

Other than that, the orientation had invited LMKK Executive Assistant Manager, Director of Food & Beverage, Chief Engineer, Financial Controller and Human Resources Manager to deliver a speech about their career in LMKK and Starwood hotels. Once the employee joins the team of Starwood hotels, he or she has an opportunity to work in those nine brands. For example, if I was the Marcomm Manager in LMKK. One day, I want move to KL. Even though there is a LMKL but I can apply to any Starwood brands in KL i.e. Sheraton KL or W Hotel KL.

From the PR’s perspective, this on boarding training is very important as the responsibility of a professional PR is to fulfill the tasks specified within the range defined by the chain management or internal hotel rules and regulations and thus to build up and maintain a positive image and long – term relationship between the public community and the hotel.
