Today I had my very first meeting with all the colleagues, I
feel honored to be part of it. The meeting is held once a week, they debrief
the past week and discuss new potential projects. What I appreciated is that my
big boss first of all, invited me to come and secondly asked me my opinion
concerning a potential project, mainly because it was a very controversial
subject on the island at that moment and she wanted me to share my opinion.
I learned a lot about this meeting, I tried to take notes
but everything was moving very fast. What I appreciated and that I will surely
try to replicate in the future when I will have my own communication agency is
the way they all give their opinion about how to handle the potential project,
if it is a good idea to accept the project or even draft some strategies. Then
they combine everyone’s ideas to create an amazing communication plan.
What I learned is that if you don’t feel a project because
it do not align ethically to your company’s missions, don’t accept it. There
was this confidential project that they were given to, by the Government, the
agency would have been paid in millions but they decided not to do it because
of the consequences it could have on the company’s reputation and our negative
opinion about this specific project. They don’t want to be associated with
something they don’t feel comfortable with and I respect that a lot.
I had the chance to be there when they created a pitch for a
client, ideas were coming from everywhere. During our previous modules where we
had to create a pitch for a client, it took us three weeks to find ‘out of the
box’ ideas and write them properly. When I saw them sharing their ideas,
writing them concisely and clearly on the slides, I realised that experience
was the key. For the time being I am still a beginner but I am learning every
single day, I think this module was the most enriching one since the beginning
of my studies because of the real life experience mixed with the theory learned
during the previous PR modules.
Here is a proud photo of my desk at the office, small and cosy :)
Thank you for reading my blog post and stay tuned.

Hi Anne-Laure!
Great post! I was able to relate to what you said about participation in meetings, sharing of ideas, and ethical issues coming up in proposed projects.
I was also given the opportunity to participate in the official weekly meetings of the company. The fact that the directors themselves invite you and ask you to share your opinions about a project or issue definitely makes you feel a little bit more legitimate within the organisation. They value your opinions, and this is encouraging.
I also agree with you on the fact that the brainstorming and sharing of ideas in group is one of the most efficient techniques. Group work has the advantage of providing more insights from different perspectives when designing a project. Moreover, when people with considerable experience in the industry share their ideas, the outcome may only be interesting.
Thank you for your sharing!
