I am four days in now to my 20 day
internship and my, I have definitely learnt a lot.
Firstly, I am happy to say that I have
enjoyed every minute of it. I was so nervous that I would be bored and hate
spending hours upon hour’s sitting at my desk., however to my surprise there is
always something to do that keeps you stimulated to work through the day.
I absolutely love my mentor Lorelei, she
has made me feel so comfortable working there and has given me really
interesting task that I can work individually on. They really trust me and
leave me to do my thing, which has been great.
One thing that has surprised me the most is
the fact that no one actually has a lunch break. It seems the office culture is
to eat at your desk. I find it so weird.
Another exciting aspect of my internship is
that I have been working on organising the annual Angove Street Festival. I
have been given the task of acquiring the kid’s entertainment for the Paragon
Kids Zone and I am also in charge or acquiring performers for the Community
Stage.
The other day we went to the City of Vincent
and had a meeting to discuss our progress on organising the Festival. I found
it very daunting, even though I just had to sit there, I was really nervous for
some reason. There were about 20 different people in the meeting and I found it
very overwhelming. However, it was a great experience to see how big meetings
run. I think as I attend more meetings will become more confortable.
Over all the past couple of days have been
really good, everyday I am doing something different. I have also been lucky
enough to gain a lot of insight into the world of PR Consultancy which has been
really interesting as this is the direction I plan on going when I graduate.
Xx
