6 WEEKS DOWN. 1st Blog entry!

Tomorrow is going to be my 8th day at Variety WA. It's scary to see how fast six weeks has gone, but looking back i have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time.

My internship journey started 10 weeks ago when i started researching PR agencies in Perth. To start off i contacted: PPR Perth, Soapbox PR, 3AM Thoughts, Muse Bureau, Magenta Boutique Creative Agency, and Clarity Communication. Everyone i spoke to gave me the same reply "..email me your resume and we will see what we can do" or "..sorry we don't take on interns". I came to a dead end with no one calling me back or replying to my emails so i decided to call up Charity's around Perth! After calling several i finally got a call back from Variety WA saying they were desperate for some help and asked me to come in ASAP to meet up and introduce myself and I ended up starting that week! They asked me to come in every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Variety WA helps children growing up with disability, serious illness or disadvantage. Variety gives more than a million dollars worth of goods and services a month to Australian children with special needs. At Variety, they have one department for there PR, marketing, events and fundraising so i knew i was going to be learning a lot more then i was expecting!! The first day at Variety i noticed how laid back everyone is, there work environment is  carefree and everyone always seemed to be working on different projects!

On my first day i was told i will be working on one of Variety's annual events- The Santa Fun Run! So far for the event i have done a 3 page document outlining target audiences,  3 media releases, a detailed list of all the schools within a 20km radius of the Fun Run, an email seeking sponsorship and played around with Photoshop to create a poster with past pictures to put in newsletter's. Even though i was given the Santa Fun Run as my project while being at Variety i have also  created posters for the ambassador children, who are sick or disabled children that Variety has helped and i have helped research and plan a casino event that may be held at Lama bar in Subiaco.

The best thing about doing my internship at Variety is how Katie (Marketing manager) goes through all my work at the end of the day and we discuss what I've done. So far all my work has been used for  upcoming events or marketing purposes!
