My last task at Magenta was spent helping out at one of Perth's Department Stores Autumn/Winter fashion launch. My task was working backstage and helping prep all of the clothes and models and then once the show was on to help dress the models before they walked the runway.
It was exciting to be able to start my internship with a fashion show and also end it on the same note. Fashion shows are definitely not as glamorous as most people think. They are hectic with everyone doing different things on top of each other and trying to get all the clothes ready in time for the show.
The show was a great success and went off with out any problems which was a relief!
I really enjoyed my time at Magenta and I definitely learnt a lot from the all the girls there. They were all really nice and helpful towards me.
One of the main things that I learnt is that I now know more about what I don't want! Magenta is a consultancy and as such they have multiple clients with each of the PR girls working across multiple clients. Watching this and seeing how they juggle each clients and the different tasks makes me think that I would prefer to work in-house for a company and be able to put all my energy into one client. It shall be interesting if I do end up in-house to see what the differences are between the two mediums of PR.
I am so grateful to everyone at Magenta for everything that did for me and the time they took to teach me different areas of PR.
I am now looking forward to a future career in PR after seeing in a real world environment.
Thanks for reading.

Hi Jess.
I’m glad you enjoyed your internship.
Like you, I really want to compare the different experiences between working as an in-house practitioner and within a consultancy. For my part, I worked as an in-house practitioner and I can tell you that you still have to juggle between very different tasks, especially if you’re working for a large firm. I was in the sugar industry and I found myself having to write press releases and speeches about football (the company was sponsoring the Football Republic Cup), not to mention different articles regarding their CSR activities.
My conclusion is that we’ve chosen a field which is unpredictable in the sense that we’ll have to do a bit of everything and that we also need to be familiar with lots of different topics.
Personally, I think I’d prefer to work in a consultancy because I feel like there’s more room for creativity. Although I enjoyed my in-house experience, I feel like I could have learned more in a consultancy, around other creative people. However, one thing I’m sure of is that I developed a real passion for PR.
All the best for your future career,
Haddiyyah
Hi Jess,
Happy for you that you enjoyed your time at Magenta! A friend of mine is completing hers there as well and she is also finding it very enjoyable and beneficial. The fashion side would be exciting to work on.
I have the same issue relating to consultancy or in house - currently am taking part in two internships, both small sized consultancies, and whilst they have been good so far I would be very interested to see the key differences between those and in house.
And I also am learning what I am not enjoying - one of these small things being sitting alone in a corner put aside for me, away from the rest of the team! I prefer to be working alongside my colleagues.
Congratulations on finishing, I'm sure your experience at Magenta will be great for your future :)
