Sorry for my long absence, I was pretty much busy this
week.
I have something interesting for you Public Relations’
Lovers.
Have you ever heard of this saying: “Prevention is better
than cure”?
This saying is applicable in the PR field. I would even be
tempted to say that anticipation is better than cure.
I received a call from my colleague from “Opera Mauritius”,
where I am on internship asking me if I were to be free on both Friday and
Saturday10th and 11th April.
What to answer? Yes or No?

Of course my reply was yes, since a PR person should always
be prepared for unexpected stuff.
However on this Saturday there were several events also involving
“Otayo” (the company who closely works with “Opera Mauritius” for tickets sales).
Incidentally they were facing staffing issues.
“Otayo” requested my assistance. I would certainly not
refuse such an opportunity to acquire some experience in a new field and on the
same occasion help them and show.
Some may not see where the PR aspect is in such cases. I
recall my teacher saying that as a PR person, one should consider all aspects
of what might affect the reputation and image of a company.
He provided us with a good example. His company had organised
an event. People in charge of cleaning the place were absent and he decided to
do it. As a PR person, he had to ensure that everything was perfect. Had he not
done it, despite the fact that it was not his duty, his company might then have
faced some reputation issues.
Since every small details can impact on the reputation of a
company, the PR person has to do everything he can to maintain or even improve
the reputation of his company.
Providing my help to “Otayo” on one of the events scheduled
on Saturday and organised by “Opera Mauritius” was one of such situations. I
helped “Otayo” to provide their services to “Opera Mauritius” and by ricochet
provided the service to the clients of “Opera Mauritius”.
I am sure that if I was not there, “Otayo” would have found
someone else to do it but I am glad to have been there. Would another
opportunity of working for “Otayo” arise, I will definitely show up.
During such events, I also learned that one should be
cautious while tackling an unexpected issue. There was a small confusion with
the synopsis which was supposed to be handed over to clients.
There
was nothing we could change about the distribution of the synopsis apart from apologizing,
apologizing and again apologizing for this.
We
have apologised and explained to the clients what the problem was about assuring
them that we would in future make sure that this would not recur.
“Everything you do or say is public
relations.” – Unknown - I agree with this saying, since everything can have an
impact on the image of a company.
Professionalism is always needed in PR field.

Hi, Anne-Julie your post was quite refreshing and I can relate whereby there are some situation one has to step in and there are no tasks which are less important than the other. I am glad that you are thinking positive not many people would have done the same, we need to take every opportunity to learn. All the best!
