See everything from a PR perspective

Dare you to be a good PR person?

Open your eyes and spirit wide..

Then be prepared, Public Relations practice is a multidisciplinary one.

I do not know for you but when I discovered the due tasks I was to complete during my internship, I was invaded with mixed feelings: excitement and apprehension.

They seemed really interesting but I was not sure if they fell under the umbrella of a PR person’s tasks.

I also questioned myself whether I would be able to achieve my goals and meet expectations?

Someone once told me that I needed to see everything from a PR perspective and that’s where my incredible journey in the Public Relations world started.

My internship did not start as I expected. The very first day I called at the office, the staff members with whom I was to work, were not aware of my arrival.

This could have been an issue, though as a PR person, one should be able to cope with any situation and turn it into opportunities.

However I must admit I had a warm welcome.

Getting into the swing of things quickly on my first day itself, we had a training with one employee of the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB).

I remembered one of our PR classes, where we had seen that efficient staff training could have an impact on the overall image and reputation of a company. Better and well trained employees deliver better quality services and incidentally customer satisfaction by ricochet improves the reputation of the company.

Since then, I kept in mind that I should be observing things from another perspective, seeing beneath appearances and reading between the lines to see how everything can be related to PR practices.

This experience has triggered my desire to develop important skills in PR , namely, my thinking and reflective skills.

I am enthusiastic by the idea of seeing things from a different perspective and understanding how each and every action has an equal or opposite reaction.
With more experience I will be able to assemble every pieces of the puzzle.

Hello Anne,

It was great reading your blog, and i wish you all the best at your new placement. I like your blog's theme of seeing things from a "PR Perspective", which is something that I'm also learning to actively do, it is really interesting how i would we normally perceive little things, and how differently a PR Professional looks at them in a much more analytical way. Its a very interesting concept!

Once again, all the best!

Hi Naomi,
Thank you very much. I hope you'll enjoy reading my other blog posts then. if you could provide me with links to your blog posts, so that i can read them too.
You know this idea just came after talking to my teacher, i was i like oh my god my internship has already started and i still don't know if i am on the right track in this company. He just replied to me that i shall seek for PR tasks in everything i do. And you know what, since this moment i started to see PR everywhere, even when i am not at work. If you are passionate about something and work hard for it, you'll find a way to succeed in it.

All the best to you, and hope we'll get to talk to each other again.
Cheers,
Marie Anne-Julie Quenette
