Thank goodness it’s Friday – the end of yet another busy week! Work is busier than ever and with the addition of three assignments on the go, sure makes things pretty hectic at the moment.
At the Water Corporation we believe in Fresh
Water Thinking . We're
constantly looking for new ways to source and preserve our precious water.
Which got me thinking, how can I apply my PR learnings and bring some 'fresh PR thinking' and new
ideas into my communications role.
Quite often when we complete tasks over and
over again, it’s easy to miss an opportunity for improvement. As I’m new to the
team, a fresh pair of eyes can be beneficial in really seeing how things can be
done more efficiently.
Today a colleague
and I prepared for an upcoming training session on how to write a briefing
note. Being new to briefing note writing
myself, I volunteered to assist in a practice run session. I was able to
provide feedback on how we could simplify the key messages for those who were
learning these new skills for the first time.
As a professional
team of PR practitioners we are constantly receiving constructive criticism. Our
Minister is very clear in her expectations – we need to shift our thinking and
language to becoming a listening, problem solving, and flexible organisation. We
must look for, and present, options to help solve our customers and
stakeholders concerns. We must be concise and clear in communicating our key
messages.
Briefing notes
are just one technique used to communicate an issue. The Water Corporation
produces many media statements throughout the year reflecting on the aspects of
our diverse business. A selection
of media releases is available to view on the Water Corporation website at http://www.watercorporation.com.au/about-us/media/media-releases.
