When I first started studying PR, I found it hard to explain to my friends just what a PR professional does from day-to-day. The first two weeks of my internship at PPR have cleared a lot of things up for me about the work PR entails. The most interesting part of my second week has helped me realised the role of PR in business.
This week a colleague and I were media monitors for the day! We were taken to Fremantle to interview subjects surrounding an event we are working on. My colleague organised the interview with a journalist and the interview subjects. Our job was to make sure the subjects were briefed on what to say during the interview, and to make sure the best content was filmed to benefit our client and the subjects involved. It was a good feeling to be the supervisor of the interview, as all our knowledge of the client and the event were being put to good use. The interview went smoothly and the role we played in the day's proceedings was actually quite small.
I've discovered that the easiest way to describe PR to those with no idea of what PR actually is, is to say we are 'communicators'. We are the gateway between journalists and our clients, and we make the messages sent to the public clear and concise. What was an almost easy task for my colleague was the most exciting thing I've done at PPR yet. Maybe it was because we got to travel to Fremantle, or maybe it was seeing the cool camera and equipment used to film the interview. But this day trip really made me feel excited about my role working in PR.
Welcome to PR Internship - YOUR opportunity to put everything you have learned over the past years at university into practice and to get a thorough insight into what public relations is like "in the real world". This Blog allows you to reflect on your experiences, share insights with other students across campuses and to possibly give advice and support to fellow students.
