Today marks the end of the first week of my placement and I have to say my personal expectations have been very much incorrect so far!
I am undertaking my placement at a small events company called JumpClimb. They are most well known for their annual Mt Lawley community event The Beaufort Street Festival that runs over one day in November. The festival is the largest one day festival in Western Australia and because of this, has gained traction nationally.
The company currently has two directors and a pretty confusing amount of employees that seem to come and go with only three staff members that currently permanent. The other employees are either contracted on a part time basis or are employed as sub-contractors.
In my first week I have researched different self-inflating, adult bouncy castle objects, helped map out a site for Beaufort Street rollercoaster, thought about ways to encase a DJ inside a fibreglass UFO structure and read about fifty arts grant applications detailing from a barn yard chicken sculptures that you can race, to interactive, moving murals and transportable art caves that you can literally walk through and be totally immersed in art. I get the feeling that is placement is going to be fairly interesting!
From this internship I am hoping to gain a broader sense of the public relations industry with a focus on events management. I would really like to get some more experience writing publishable communications like press releases and to gain some practical event experience to see how events work from an industry standard.
That's all for now!

Welcome to PR Internship - YOUR opportunity to put everything you have learned over the past years at university into practice and to get a thorough insight into what public relations is like "in the real world". This Blog allows you to reflect on your experiences, share insights with other students across campuses and to possibly give advice and support to fellow students. Please also see http://http://printernship-reflections2.blogspot.com.au/ for more reflections.
