My 20-day internship at the
Department of Education has flown by, and sadly my last day with the Corporate
Communications and Marketing team came and went. The office held a morning tea
in honour of me completing the internship and bought me beautiful tulips! I
felt so blessed to work with such an amazing team, and delighted to hear they
had loved having me work with them! Before I started this internship I was
dreading my first day, but now I’m saddened to leave and will have to occupy my
days starting the report.
On the whole I felt I learnt so
much about the public relations industry, working in-house, and about myself in
the professional setting. Before completing the internship, I had my doubts
about working in the public relations industry and was more focused on becoming
a journalist. After the internship and having hands-on experience, I am definitely
looking to work in the PR world. I loved every minute of it – the office, the
people, the social interaction, the crisis management, and I found I am
particularly adept at planning and writing at a moment’s notice.
It would be interesting to do an
internship or get some experience working at an out-of-house PR agency to
compare the two, but at this point in time I thoroughly enjoyed in-house and
would consider a career in that area. I found it to be incredibly beneficial to
work for one client and to represent the organisation with the utmost
confidence as the PR consultants are particularly knowledgeable and
highly-skilled.
My experience interning with the
Department of Education has been a thoroughly enjoyable one and I have plenty
of material to write about in my final report, thankfully! My supervisors even
recommended that I come back to work for them! I honestly couldn’t have had
better guidance from my supervisors and colleagues, and I will be grateful that
I had my first PR experience with the CCM team! They have ignited a public
relations fire in me, and I cannot wait to graduate and enter the workforce,
eager and rearing to learn.
I hope all your internship experiences
have been as great as mine and you’ve learnt a little thing or two! That’s it
from me, for now.
