Interviews and YouTube Talk Shows

When I started interning for an events company, I wasn’t expecting my fabulous internship boss to also have her own YouTube talk show- but she does! It’s called Hello Darlink! and it aims to interview people from all walks of life who have overcome adversity and done amazing things in their lives.

A few weeks in to my internship we had the opportunity to interview John Jarratt (of Wolf Creek fame) and Kaarin Fairfax, stars of a film named Stalkher (see the trailer below). The film is essentially a battle-of-the-sexes black comedy with a twist at the end. I was lucky enough to be able to tag along for a preview screening, after which we filmed an episode of Hello Darlink!

The interview was quite last minute, meaning we had to pull together questions the day before the interview. Jarratt and Fairfax had done very little promotion for the film prior to this interview, so it we had a degree of freedom in developing the questions without wondering if they had been asked them a million times before.

We wrote many, many questions, but narrowed it down to around 12, focusing on how the actors had developed their careers, what obstacles they had faced, the Australian film industry and their professional and personal relationships. The interview flowed vey well, as Jarratt and Fairfax had a long history of working together and had an easy-going chemistry.

It was fascinating being part of the process of producing a show, as I got to see it go from us sitting in an office developing questions, to seeing the footage being filmed, to seeing the edited version on YouTube.

What I love about my internship is that no two days are the same, and multi—tasking is essential! I’m never bored and I’m really enjoying the hands on aspect of interning for a boutique business.

Hi Sarah :)
I found your blog really interesting especially because It gave me the chance to watch YouTube videos and understand exactly where you were coming from!

I was just wondering how often your supervisor posts these videos on Youtube? I've always been interested in the whole 'Youtube' side and how it can open many exciting windows! But don't really know how much time and effort goes into it.

It must be rewarding to see how much effort she puts into it. I know it would be for me because im a big lover of 'Youtubers.'

Enjoy the rest of your internship,
Caris :)

Hi Caris,

Thanks for the feedback!

My supervisor posts around once or twice a month. The developing questions and filming aspect is relatively quick, usually a few days turnaround. The editing process however can take ages, up to a few weeks. The raw footage can sometimes be hours long, but the finished product is usually under 20 minutes.

She recently did an episode in Poland about the "Nazi Gold Train" which was really cool. I'll put the link here in case you'd like to watch it :)

Hope you're enjoying your internship too!
