Make time for that DIGITAL DETOX!

In an industry such as PR we pretty much eat, breathe and sleep technology. As much as we want to deny it we all have a serious case of nomophobia. But I have learnt that this is okay. It just means we are good at our jobs, but it doesn’t need to define us.

Technology brings us organisation, immediate news and so much other vital information. But the question is, are other resources beyond the World Wide Web more powerful?

During my internship I have learnt the need for a DIGITAL DETOX. This does not only have obvious perks for your mental and physical health, but surprisingly it is sometimes the perfect solution to spark creativity. The thing I love about PR is the creativity, and what I have found is that the best strategies are often just outside your window.

I leave you with a challenge… see how long you can go without your phone. Try a few hours at least. Look up and you might be surprised what you discover for a client or even about yourself.

I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and have a chat to people around you. People that aren’t apart of your typical social scene and offer you a fresh perspective on life.

I challenge you to make time to meet your friends that only seem real on Facebook. You will be surprised that the phone you thought was your best friend isn’t at all, and that seeing your real best friends is a lot more satisfying.

Until next time,
Kayla x

Hi Kayla,

I think your blog about internal communication was great! I definitely am a phone addict and can't put my phone down for very long!

I think one thing that I have learnt at my placement is how much emailing is used.. I'm not sure if it's the same where you are but at PPR a lot of the pitching to media is done through email followed by a phone call a few days later if the media outlet hasn't responded. I think it's really interesting because as a Journalism student as well we are told to keep on calling until you get an answer!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your placement,

From,
