From the beginning of my studies social media has been at the forefront of communication across all aspects of public relations and business. Taking on the social media strategy and plan for an organisation is integral in shaping the organisations image and style.
From my internship i have gathered along with past work experience just how contrasted organisations social media plans can be. The Game Sports Bar has a heavy duty social media plan with 3 active social media streams (Facebook, twitter, instagram) all integral in promotions and bringing in customers as well as creating discussion online. 3 posts everyday mean a lot of content a to of the time.
With creating a style we took on classic hashtags to create a routine for followers as it has been heavily researched that humans enjoy routine. We adopted #tuesdayinspo which will be a sports or motivation quote overlapping into the sports theme of the business. #throwbackthursday allows us to find an image or video of a great sporting moment in history and sharing this to create engagement. Often relating week to week to the hot sport of that time.
Facebook now allows pages to see the analytics behind each post. We are able to monitor posts and see what does well and creates engagement and what flops. The use of hoot suite allows management of schedule easy and effective so that entire weeks can be pre-scheduled easing time up for other events.
Social media is one of my favourite parts of public relations and using it to communicate to an organisations publics. You uphold the image and style of an organisation on a multi level platform.
Have any of you had to take on social media voice for an organisation, if so what do you learn?
Welcome to PR Internship - YOUR opportunity to put everything you have learned over the past years at university into practice and to get a thorough insight into what public relations is like "in the real world". This Blog allows you to reflect on your experiences, share insights with other students across campuses and to possibly give advice and support to fellow students. Please also see http://http://printernship-reflections2.blogspot.com.au/ for more reflections.

Hi Tamika,
The power of social media hey! In my third week at PPR I was actually put in charge of their Instagram account, I could upload a picture about anything and everything as long as it had the approval of one of my employees. In my own time I am an avid Instagram user, and I find myself regularly uploading posts about food, what I did on the weekend and the beach (three of my favourite things!) but when I was put in charge of PPR's Instagram I found it so difficult! I think it was nerves at first but also what content to publish, as it's an office environment not many exciting things go on (unfortunately!)
I managed to find a couple of things to post about, like the Fremantle Dockers cupcakes in the staff meeting and Daniel the dog who came in for a visit and even some of the McHappy Day socks which arrived in the office. I definitely learnt how to 'gram' in a 'corporate way' I suppose!
Hope you continue enjoying your placement,

Hi Bayley,
It is crazy when they let you take over the reins! that moment of total control of an organisations public image.
Hope you are enjoying your placement as well :)
Hi Tamika,
Sounds like your involved in a lot of hands on work, which is great.
Your point on human routine was very interesting and insightful. It made me think if all other organisations on social media followed similar ideas and formats. After scrolling through a few Facebook pages it was clear that they did follow a clear routine.
Like you, I also found Hootsuite a life saver, in terms of saving time and having all social media channels present on one dashboard.
When working at the Perth Scorchers, I also found that people like re-visiting past sporting moments as it brought back that sense of nostalgia and recreated the emotion of the event.
Best of luck for the rest of your internship and future endeavors.

Hi Tamika
Social Media has got to be one of the most powerful methods of communcation out there. It's amazing how much influence it can have on our day to day lives and how much time we spend on it!!
I have had the opportunity to run a social media platform at my placement, and I learnt photos create the most engagement amongst fans as well as keeping posts short and simple. People don't want to read long paragraphs.
Good luck with everything!
Joanna
