Closing this chapter

Its unfortunately time to say goodbye!

It has been one of the most amazing experience working at Maurice Publicité. Everything happened so fast that it felt as if it was only yesterday that I started as an intern over there. Thinking to all the advantages that I had at MAUPUB such as meeting influential clients, attending confidential meetings and dealing with big organisations only made me even more excited to join this new awaiting world.

I remember when I just stated interning, I was assigned to research and provide a draft of a press kit that would be considered afterwards by our client. I was new... and providing such a big work only gave me further stress. I however pulled it all back together as the project is something new which is going to be introduced in the island some time soon for the first time. Researching is the key, for what I remember. Knowing mostly everything about your client; such as the kind of releases they are more prompted to, the images they would prefer to be part of their kit is what I believe
helped me in drafting my press release.

The responses were amazing, and got to learn even further with my supervisor. Confidence is also the key, where as long as one knows their potential and is not intimidated to bring something to the organisation they are working for, everything might go as planned. Agencies do get a lot of interns, but those who are willing to bring something new, are those who might stay for a longer period. I gave everything I could and came back with further ideas. It was even funny as when I went to talk to my second supervisor, he was already smiling knowing that something was coming.

I also got to plan the end of year party for the organisation which was really fascinating. I was asked to prepare a full project plan giving each and every detail in regards to how the evening would go. Contacting the different location possible and negotiating for a reasonable price was quite hard which I might add, but also coming up with a theme was the part that I preferred.

Dealing with the clients is not the only job that is expected from a PR. I was also asked to contact every single news agency in the island to come and attend one of our client's event. This part of the job was quite tough if I could be honest. I never expected that some news agencies would act and speak that harshly to other individuals. But again, its part of the job, and I you like what you do small issues like this would never dissuade you from doing what you are supposed to do.

H :)

It sounds like you had a fantastic Internship. I felt very much the same as I came towards the end of my own. I completely agree with you about finally being able to take our PR learning and applying into the real world workforce.
Best of luck in the future

Sharone
