Hello,
My name is Ellie and I am currently doing my prac placement at a Perth-based PR consultancy called hopscotch communications. We look after several fashion and entertainment clients in Perth and Adelaide and my role at hopscotch is 'Publicity Assistant' - this is also my part-time job whilst finishing my studies. I have been working at hopscotch for nearly 8 months and love it!
For the purpose of my 393 placement, I am using hopscotch to base my final report on, but I am also doing some work experience / prac at the Western Australian Museum in their Media and Marketing department.
I find it really interesting experiencing these two PR worlds. My role at hopscotch is very much publicity and media relations. As hopscotch is a consultancy I work with three clients simultaneously, on a day-to-day basis and my roles and responsibilites change depending on the season (fashion seasons, and non-ratings periods). And through working at the WA Museum I am experiencing a Government organisation with many multi-faceted departments and a range of fascinating topics, which again means the work is varied and constantly changing.
So far in my experience I have planned and implemented several creative media campaigns at hopscotch communications to launch Spring and Summer clothing and footwear collections for the fashion clients at hopscotch and I am currently working on Winter catalogue campaigns.
This is my forth week at the musuem (doing 1.5 days per week) and my acitivities so far have included writing media releases on several up-coming exhbitions and a ship-wreck discovery! Also, updating media databases and analysing media clippings and preparing documents for the staff newsletter.
I find working in the arts industry extremely rewarding as I have alsways had an interest in this area, and I have been lucky enough to find two places to complete my prac in that fit into the 'arts' niche, but in completely separate ways!
I hope I haven't bored everyone with my placement news so far, and I look forward to reading about everyone else's experiences!
- Ellie
