I am lucky enough to have been sent over to Sydney to meet everyone in the NSW office and put a face to name which makes communicating with them and brainstorming exercises via conference call much easier.
One thing that has emerged from my visit however, is the importance of effective and professional communication between departments. Within Landcare there are 3 main departments; Projects, Business Development and Public Relations. It is essential that the three work efficiently and comunicate together to achieve the company's mission and objectives.
Within the meetings it began to be clear that the three departments did not always understand the agenda, deadline and purpose of the next. Sacha my PR Director however, came up with a fantastic idea of creating a Product Portfolio of sorts despite being a not-for-profit organisation. This portfolio would be taken to Corporate sponsors and would clearly outline;
a) The various types of sponsorship they could provide to LAL (Landcare Australia Limited)
b) The available Landcare projects within the state this money could be awarded to and
c) The various PR incentives and benefits that each sponsorship category encouraged or provided
This portfolio would also include deadlines and a publishing schedule for all LAL publications so all departments were clear on when projects and campaigns would start (including the essential planning period for Business Development to canvass sponsors).
Everything should be a lot clearer and more organised - as well as keeping everyone in the know and happy. We are now all working and brainstorming on the various components and it should be a very successful tool for LAL moving forward.

You are really lucky to have that opportunity to fly over to Sydney during the internship!
Well, communication is indeed a crucial issue and it is always quite difficult to ensure that everyone involved is on the same train of thoughts. To me, I feel that having hard copies of data is always important. Meeting face-to-face always seem to be the better option rather then communicating via email or other methods. Also, with the product portfolio, it is quite similar to having an information kit/ media kit. One will know that this particular kit would have the relevant information and at anytime when a particular information is needed, you will know what to locate it.
I have also been working on an information kit for the company I am working with and its always easy to have a kit that contains the important documents which can be easily referred to. Standardising documents also helps! Like you mentioned, it clearly outlines all the issues that are important.
Thanks for sharing!
