Official Visits and The Local Media

during the placement, handling and accompany my supervisor with the local high school visits to Curtin Sarawak, was my first hand experience on how to handle visitors. My job was to observe as part of learning for the next official visits.

As this year is marks the 10 year anniversary of Curtin Sarawak, and as part of the celebration, the corporate communication department have organised a campaign on showing appreciation to the local media by giving gifts to the local media. I was appointed to make appointments to each of the local newspapers company. There's one thing about handling the local newspapers, you have to be patience as the local media sometimes tend to speak in their mother toungue especially the Chinese newspapers. The good advantage that i have was i can speak Mandarin, which helps a lot, although it's a bit rusty. But as part of Public Relations and Media relations, have to be patience and keep up with their schedule. However, here in Miri it's fortunate that the City is calm and quiet, so the journalists life here is less busy then the big cities.

these experience help a lot with my communication skills in making appointment and talking to unknown persons, haha, sounds like im not a Public Relations student.
