Hi Everyone
I'm excited to say this is my first post!
I am a couple of days into my work placement with Tourism WA and so far I have found it interesting and enjoyable. Tourism WA is a government body and is responsible for promoting Western Australia as a tourist destination. I am really lucky that I was able to get the placement as it incorporate's both areas of my degree (PR and Tourism Management) and I find the industry really interesting.
My first day had a slow start as I needed a computer login for what they wanted me to do and I didn't have one yet. So a little while was spent reading up on the news and their newsletters, annual reports etc. while I waited. I admit that on the first day I was a little daunted. I haven't done any work experience in PR before, so was a little unsure about what to expect in the "real world". However, of course, I soon discovered that I really just needed to apply skills I had already learnt.
I found out from speaking to others that the work they do there involves tasks such as; writing media releases, articles, newsletters etc, and writing a lot of speeches for spokespersons of the organisation. For the first couple of days I've been there, I have been working on a number of things at once. Time management is definately important, as some tasks are more urgent than others. At the moment I have just been writting up articles for their online newsletter, organising media clippings about Tourism WA, and helping to brainstorm ideas for future projects they are working on. I have found everyone there very friendly and helpful in assisting me with improvements I could make and further my learning.
I hope everyone had a good study break and thank you for reading my blog!
Kelsey
