Back to reality

Hello buddies,
Here I am after a one week of study break...back to work at the International Students Committee of Curtin University. This week is like every other week. We are still working on the international week event, but this time I have more responsibilities and therefore more work.

On Monday I had to prepare the letters for the VIP. It was quite boring. Then, on Tuesday, I had to selection potential sponsors and I needed to deal with them by phone and email to ask for sponsorship. It was quite hard for me, because as you know English is not my first language, and the Australian accent could be sometime hard to understand. But most of the time Australian people are very kind with me, and accept to repeat what they said. With time I will become use to the accent, and it will be easier for me to work in Australia.

Anyway I am here to learn, and I have already learnt a lot during this internship. Really, in an internship we learn very fast. We practice all we learned at university, but we learn it faster and easier, because we do not have the same pressure and it is also easier to learn through the practice.

Tomorrow and Friday, I will need to work again on the sponsorship, to see if they have accepted or rejected our ideas, and then worked on other sponsors.
However, I really appreciate the ambiance at the office. We are not much, during the day there are 5 people who work there, but they come anytime from 8am to 5pm. They are all students so they come to the office whenever they want depending on their classes. But normally we are like 2 people to work in the office in the same time; the public officer and the public relation assistant (me). It makes things easier. We work more efficiently and there are also more work to be shared between the officer and me.

The ambiance is relaxed, and we take our time to make the work look perfect. Every morning we do a sort of brainstorming, and discuss about all ideas we have for the events. We have nearly finished the multicultural week, and next week we will work on the other major event of the ISC: Pasar Malam.
Good luck for the next few days,

Celine from the Bentley Campus

Hey Celine!

I guess working in the school really opens up another set of opportunities for you. You will know better how the school runs things on a daily basis and you're also killing two birds with one stone! Why I said this is because not only are you learning a lot about public relations from your internship, you're also learning how to understand Australians and their accent better!

I bet you get to learn about Australians on a different level than when you get to know them in your classes. I guess your stint there as a foreign student, allows you to learn a sort of "international" public relations.

And it's nice to hear that you get to work with a small team. I think the things that teach you will more personalized and you get to learn more!

Hope your internship goes on to serve you well! All the best!
