First Entry

Hi everyone,

Well, I am Shari and this is my first blog entry and I feel very good when I finally start writing in it because I was so nervous of not getting a placement here in Perth. As an international student sometimes I find it very hard to look for job opportunities in the country because I'm afraid that my nationality will hinder employers to hire me even for internships. With the help of Katharina and her support throughout the semester I have finally found a placement for myself which is fantastic!

I found myself a placement in a radio program called Joy Radio that was created especially for the Indonesian community in Perth which made me feel closer to home. I am working as the radio's media relations and was told in my first day that not only I will be handling the radio's promotional campaign but also helping with the weekly programs and the crew decided to let me have an opportunity at broadcasting some news in the radio. It is interesting as I tried my first time airing live on radio this week. Some of my other jobs this week is also to collect recent news that has been going on in Indonesia for the news segment as the radio's aim is for Indonesian's in Perth to feel closer at home.

So far, my placement opportunity has given so many new things I can learn from and it's helping me understand the nature of some businesses that I haven't understood before. I will be looking forward to next week as there are some new crew members that's coming to help in the radio station. Hope everyone will have a good study break :)
