A hard beginning maketh a good ending

I opened my post with a quote from the English playwright and poet, John Heywood. I feel that the quote resonates deeply with my internship experience.

Having my first experience working as a PR intern has its ups and downs. I think all of you would agree. All the uncertainty of whether your work is good enough or whether it's relevant to be depicted onto the final report. But I am not here to talk about my experience only. I'm also here to pen down all the hard work that the Global Good Foundation team have put in to turn the night of October 30th at the Hyatt Regency a reality and success.

The GGF team has been working tirelessly and unconditionally to make this event a success. Months of worrying about not being able to fill up the event simply dissipated when we saw how the guests were enjoying themselves and the company of others. After months of promoting our event on media releases, we finally got to witness the real thing

L to R: $12k worth of diamonds graciously donated by Dean Knoote. Breathtaking aerialist performance and last but not least, GGF ambassador, Paulini, performing her self-penned songs.

Apologies for the quality of photos, they were taken from the back of the ballroom.

The gala event was attended by 400 guests supporting our cause against domestic violence. The Curtin interns were responsible for selling raffle tickets. The raffle ticket prices include $600 worth of Arbonne gift hamper, $200 worth of gourmet food and wine from Boxt and several vouchers from Eco Providore. The support that we've garnered from the community has been amazing and reassuring. Domestic violence shouldn't be something that is tackled to those affected. The community, creating a singular voice, could stand up against domestic violence and prevent anymore lives being hurt and relationships destroyed.

The attendance of the gala event was evident that the community is beginning or has already realized the importance of helping those impacted with domestic violence. For something that is personal and usually swept under the rug, it is high time that something should be done to alleviate people affected by domestic violence.

The event, as all events go, weren't short of minor problems. This being my first event, I felt almost lost and confused as to what my tasks were. I've never sold raffle tickets before so I had to get a 2 minute crash course on how to approach the guests. Halfway through selling the raffle tickets, the interns had to switch responsibilities and start distributing the silent auction items. No matter how stressed and rushed we are, we still had to maintain that poise and image that everything is under control to the guests. After dinner was served, the guests danced and enjoyed the fine wines.

My take home factor for this event would be: no matter how hard you plan for something to run smoothly and error free, something bad can and will occur. Murphy's Law at its best. However, if the problems are assessed and solved properly and professionally, even Murphy himself would be proud of how the problems are being handled.

To relate back to the quote, knowing that we've worked hard for this event just made the ending even more bittersweet. The effort was all worth it.

Thank you to Tenille and Tiffany for the experience in working at GGF.
Thank you to Joyce, Rebecca and Ciara for being the best workmates anyone could ever wish for.

What a great event!
It sounds like you have gained a lot of insight into planning and managing PR events. Giving you that level of responsibility provides you with meaningful work experience and by the sounds of it you've done a great job. Well done :)

As much as I am enjoying my placement, I miss out on this aspect of PR so it's nice to see what you've gotten up to. Developing campaigns and organising events is something that I would have liked to experience.

It looks like all your hard work has paid off and you’ve got some great Pics to prove it :)
