For a property management company, I think it's easy to prepare for disasters because all they need to do is ask themselves "what could happen to these buildings today or tomorrow? Fire? Leakages? e.t.c." and prepare themselves! But that's just a thought!
One day, we had a situation; three houses that we managed were burnt down. Before the media could get involved, the crisis management team was already working on the issue. The crisis management team had individuals with different areas of expertise to ensure that all facets of the problem were covered. My duty was to keep in touch with the team and pass whatever information they gave me to the owners until the team identified and solved the problem.
I'd say we did good, especially by communicating with our clients because in situations like this one, communicating with your clients is vitally important. From my studies and from this experience, I've learnt that the importance of communication cannot be denied. Effective communication is crucial to relationships and success at work.

I will say this was the most pivotal exposure during your time, because many of us or less we came across such scenarios. A crisis can hit a business at any time, often when least expected to.
Well we could say, yes they are mostly caught off guard but remember that a crisis is something that comes unexpectedly, less it will not be a crisis. It is great that there was a crisis management team in existence, it is impossible to forecast all future potential crises but failure to cope effectively with those that do arise usually arise from lack of preparation, slow and uncoordinated responses and poor internal and external communications. And from what you said the crisis was well managed because of these few aspects that I picked: you had appropriate system, teams. And indeed because of good communication both internally and externally.
i agree , i will say it is essential for a PR team to always be on guard, be proactive before the press react to the matter ,and if the crisis is already at hand it is best to deal with the issue in its incubation period, effective communication works best in any instance, brand to your team dear because it takes a lot of effort to pull out a strategy that saves a company image looking at the fact that there is competition and pressure everywhere, eg the economic, technological, etc aspects of the market place
I think this is a big test you had during your placement, and I agree with Ameliah and Kefilwe for the PR has to always be in a position to solve any crisis that come to path before the media could interfere. When it comes to communication, Cuttlip, Center and Broom (1985, 312) states that Day-to-day relations involve a great deal of contact, effective communication depends on satisfactory relations built on a climate of trust. It is always important to keep your clients happy all the time. For you guys did a good job by always updating your clients in every development and thats being effective in communications. A customer relation is a key area of Public Relations in dealing with strengthening reputation of an organization.
