I think Marketing and Public Relations department should always be separate because it is not good to combine the two. For instance employees may end up doing both Public Relations work and Marketing without distinguishing the two. Due to this confusion, the staff may end up mistakenly concluding that there is no difference between the two. If they are combined at the end of the day the Public Relations office spends most of their time supporting marketing, introducing new products and services and also supporting marketing strategies. This is not supposed to be happening because marketing and Public Relations are two different aspects: As stated by (Cutlip, Center and Broom 2006, 7) Marketing deals with sales while Public Relations is concerned with evaluating public attitudes and executing programs to earn public understanding. Whats your take on that issue?

from what i've known, PR and Marketing should be in different department. I mean like sometimes they have the same job and opportunity, but then its different how they'll practice it. And sometimes Marketing is way much difficult as what Public Relation is. so, i think, they can't be in one department even though in some part, they're related to each other.
Yes Mr King i will agree with what you are saying.I think marketing is more of consumers and demand whereas PR is for building relationships, reducing conflicts and improving cooperation but how about this one, what can you say when it says that PR create a healthy environment for marketing??how far do you agree with that?
Marketing and public relations work in tandem to position a company.,Marketing does the research to determine what the position of the company is and should be while Public relations promotes the image and position of the company through events and news (Krenn,2009).
Marketing and public relations are major external functions of the firm and both share a common ground in regard to product publicity and consumer relations. At the same time, however, they operate on different levels and from different perspectives and perceptions. Working closely is ideal but making them one department would be an error thats likely to cost an organisation its image/reputation i believe they would soon forget about the image and focus on profit as marketings implicit goal is profit making not positive perceptions.
i do agree with all of you guys, though they are related and go hand in hand they should be practiced differently. this is what is happening where i did my internship. because is a small media outlet they do not have PR department but PR duties are performed in different department such as ad team, editorial and marketing team which will end up being confused because they might do their duties thinking its PR.
The mistake the organisation can do is to mix the PR and marketing in the same department and both be done by the say staff. You find that they end up without having knowledge how to tackle issues in PR as many take as they are the same and as you can see around organisation can not solve PR issues within their organisation as they will take it in a view of marketer and they will loose the focus in PR strategies that can help them to disperse the issue they have at that moment.
Hi guys what i can say is that from what i have learnt these are two different fields and yes many organizations just combine them and it works, however PR in its field should only be focused at dealing with media and building relationships while marketing is more about just demand and consumer behavior.
